Family owned, this popular, thriving business has been operating out of the Oceanside Harbor for the last 39 years. Their lease with the city expires in May 2017 and an environmental research company has submitted a proposal to the city to take over Helgren's landmark location and kick them out. Helgren's commitment and loyalty to the community remains unwaivered. Even in hard times, when the harbor was a deserted ghost town, their doors were still open. For generations, families have been coming to Oceanside from all over the country and beyond for the sole purpose of experiencing a trip on one of Helgren's boats. In honor of our military men and women, Helgren's has always offered them special packages and discounted rates. Without Helgren's at the harbor, prices will skyrocket at the fuel dock making boating unaffordable for the private boaters. The bait dock would go out of business without the steady flow of high volume sales to Helgren's. The feature attraction that brings most people to the harbor is Helgren's Sportfishing, period! Lose them and the harbor will crumble. Considering anything other than renewing their lease is a huge mistake by any official entity. Helgren's continues to offer a variety of services to the public such as day and overnight sportfishing trips, whale watching tours, private charter excursions and burials at sea. The goal is to keep Helgren's in the harbor by renewing their lease so that they may continue bringing revenue to the city of Oceanside and the thrills of adventures at sea to the public for generations to come. I was born in Oceanside and consider Helgren's Oceanside Sportfishing an important part of this city's appeal and a healthy, educational experience for children of all ages.
