Thread: Baitcasting rod handles

    Default Baitcasting rod handles

I have a couple of baitcasting rods that I still occasionally use that have the old "pistol grip" style rod handles. Does anyone still use these handles? I still like the way they feel and with certain smaller baits and jigs, and I feel like I have better control with casting and retrieving than with the straight longer handles, especially while float tubing.

I see that Fenwick still makes the Eagle casting rods, although now with the longer handles, the rod blank goes through the handle for better sensitivity. I have caught lots of bass with this older rod, but I run the line between my thumb and first finger when I retrieve worms, jigs, grubs, etc., so I can feel the bite as it is transmitted up the line. Having a shorter bait casting rod is handy when shore fishing where there are overhanging trees where sidearm casting is necessary.

Pistol grips have gone the way of the Do Do.

Personally, that grip gives me carpal tunnel.
