Was talking with a buddy about Irvine and while he did say he hadn't heard much, he did tell me that somebody is doing road work around the lake (including grading and paving). That is a good sign right?

No housing going in around lake, last I heard anyway. New development going in to the west off the 241/261 interchange.

within 10 years there will be houses completely surrounding the lake.
dont fool yourself man, the irvine company and the real estate industry need land to keep making money. pretty much everything west and north of the toll roads are built out. irvine lake and the area around it are next.
the land immediately adjacent to the lake will most likely be turned into high end semi custom homes, which means the lake will soon be off limits to commoners like you and I.

It was the best pay lake around in my book, lots of big cats still swimming it to this day I am sure.
