    Went there last Saturday on the 28th. Got there kinda late around 1:30 pm. Temps were warm but not extreme. Checked the other fishermen and they said the bite was earlier in the am and the ones that were leaving had a dozen of so 1 lb'ers on their stringers. We stayed until 5 without a bite. The lagoon is off limits due to the warden saying it is the tilapia breeding area. Last year people were slaying them there. Will try again when the temps heat up.

    ... the selenium concentrations of the tilapia and corvina were approaching 2.5 milligrams per kilograms of tissue back in 2000. Eating 2.2 pounds (1 kg) of fish from the Salton Sea per day would give you selenosis in the course of a few weeks.[3] Selenosis is selenium poisoning, a condition where you suffer from hair loss, tooth decay, garlic breath, weakness and brain damage. The COHHA advisory is based solely on selenium levels, as those are most immediately dangerous, but that does not mean that selenium is the only hazardous substance in the fish.

    Work done in 2002 reaffirmed the COHHA advisory by finding high levels of aluminum and arsenic in the fish near the shore and around the mouths of the New and Alamo rivers.[4] The study also found some other more hazardous substances: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs). PCBs are known to cause cancer and delays in neurological development[5], DDT is suspected to cause cancer and leads to premature births with chronic exposure[6], and HCHs can cause liver cancer and convulsions. All of this is with chronic exposure that would come from daily intake of fish from the Salton Sea.


    think it's been cleaned up a little since 2000-2002?

    One thing to bear in mind or try to find out is just how did they do the testing?
    Several decades ago they did some testing in Santa Monica Bay and issued warnings about the fish there, Turned out, they caught fish and ground them up WHOLE and did the testing. Turned out the bad stuff was in the skin and internal organs and not the eating flesh.
    I'm willing to bet that the testing was done the same way at the SS.
    Unless they can verify that ONLY the edible flesh was tested then the testing is invalid as far as I'm concerned.
