Micro guides?

What's the deal with tiny "micro guides" on a bait casting rod? Are they used to make the rod lighter? I they look better than the standard bait casting guides. Anyone have rods wrapped with these guides? If so, what do you think about them?

I've got a couple with them. MEH, don't really feel any difference with them. They don't cast any farther. Looks cool though.

I have one...got it on sale...nice rod, don't notice any longer distance in casting...the one drawback is that a knot to a leader isn't going to make it through the guides.
