    Default Found a cool old rod at a thrift store need some input

    Anyone wanna drop there 2 cents about what I should use this rod for......... some reason I had to buy it it's 12 ft long and seems sturdy and well built ...... It seems it was made in gardena at first I was like calstar but I guess its a older sabre and have no idea what kinda real to throw on this thingClick image for larger version.

    Pretty cool find,probably would be a wall hanger in my man cave for me.

    It looks like it would be a great crappie rod for dropping jigs down between tree branches.

    It all depends on how the blank feels..the line rating has kind of confusing print on the blank...says line 2-5 oz. Was probally intended as a surf rod to cast from shore due to length and it does appear kind of whippy in the picture. If it has a whippy tip but some backbone...maybe fish 12-25 lb test. I have some old glass rods in poor shape probably from the early 60's judging by the graphics and they are super whippy, parabolic, and long...over 10 ft long. I can't imagine fishing heavier than 8-12 lb test with them. They would probably make nice rods to whip a minijig way out there for trout or perch.

    Pair it up with a 5 or 6000 SW reel hit the surf and catch a PB hali.. Good luck post your pics.

    Surf rod. I would look around for a used penn spinner in decent shape and fish 8-20# on it.
