Just returned from a fun-filled trip to Maui. Fished several spots along the shore, from sandy beaches to volcanic crags overlooking pounding waves. Beautiful island! The little fish were abundant near the shore and eager to bite on bait, but the predators were tough to come by on my short trip. I targeted them mainly with a topwater, "whipping" style in the early morning when they seemed to be most active, but also tried a Kastmaster and a jerkbait. On my second day, lost a drag ripping battle to one topwater fish, but on my third day managed to hook into a nice 'cuda on a topwater popper. Absolutely crushed the lure, fantastic explosive strike. Can't wait to go back! Still haven't managed to land a jack...
