Maybe it was recent shark attack at Summerland or just didn’t feel like going anywhere far, so decided to check out our hometown break-wall for the first time. Quick session mid-morning with 5 min paddle, 1h of fishing and 5 min to get back on the beach. This was not like fishing ‘natural’ areas: poor clarity, stressed kelp, some garbage floating about and no bass or rockfish, maybe a couple small chasers. I tried dragging iron and jigs by the bottom to find flat fish with no luck.

Instead, at end of the wall where water gets in there were baitfish chased by bonitos. They liked my croc too and I’d get them on every cast which was a lot of fun, even though the models were only 1-2 ft. long. Few bigger macs and a couple smelt got in the mix and that was it.
