By all means it is a free country, that's why it's so great and we can discuss things like this, BUT it's that symbol of the hatred and abuse that brings up the emotions in people. Yes you are by all means free to display it and at the same yes we are free to react how we see fit. What if nobody was ever told they needed to change? this pretty much says it all. one race of peoplewho only sees one side of an issue. i'll give you a couple of what i beleive in. if the flag is used for hate or used by kkk or any of those white supremacy(sp?) groups, then i also have an issue with that. but when the flag is used for history for the confederate history and its people, then i don't. but brent, to call someone ignorant just because they dont see it as you do... is just as ignorant. two favorite words blacks use against whites...racist and ignorant lol .i dont pay too much attention on what blacks cry about due to their double standards. when they get over their hate and rcist behaviour, then i'll start to listen[/B]......maybe

OK, let's see. What about this just might tip someone off that you don't like black people? Would it be the first sentence or would it be the second sentence? Either one is very telling of who you really are, so you're opinion means nothing to me. You're the typical, " I can't be racist, I have a black friend". Do you for one second think that after hundreds of years of murder, rape, torture that all of the sudden, lets say oh around the sixties when the civil rights movement started up, we'll start there. Why that's a good 40-50 years to get over that while we still shoot you unarmed and display the confederate flag everywhere and constantly remind you how we run everything. You so badly want to believe the racism towards blacks is over. You must live in a bubble, under a rock or in a very affluent area, because if you had any urban in you, you'd understand. By all means they should just forget about it. Only problem is a lot of people won't let them. While it has gotten much better for them, a lot are still suffering from the hundreds of years of oppression and need a little empathy.

This is NOT the "Confederate" flag, this is the BATTLE FLAG adopted by the confederacy. The rebel flag was hijacked by racist southern DEMOCRAT created groups such as the KKK for a time in the mid 20th century. The Civil war was NOT about racism, slavery or anything to do with race, but was all about state rights and economics. The leftist revisionists of today want you to believe it's race based because today's South embraces right to work laws, low taxes, INDIVIDUAL freedom and liberties and many are calling for secession due to the federal government's growing overbearing power, interference in business and socialization of our society. Once again, regardless of its Civil War history, the flag owes its resurgence to racist movements of the fifties, not southern pride or anything else, and it is because of that resurgence that you see it being flown today.

As I said, I am NOT a racist in any way. And as I stated earlier in this thread I abhor slavery of any kind by any people. I am a constitutional conservative and I believe in state rights, limited federal government, low taxes and individual freedom and liberties which the South of TODAY embraces and the left doesn't. And once again, since it seems to be falling on a lot of willfully deaf ears - the Confederate flag owes it's resurgence to racially bigoted and pro-segregation groups of the 1950's. That resurgence had been twisted into the guise of "southern pride", in a pathetic attempt to maintain some semblance of legitimacy.

Brent actually did acknowledge the possibility that Hawggy isn't racist, but is either unable or unwilling to acknowledge that the Confederate flag embodies some of the most despicable and hateful thoughts in this country's history. If it's the latter, then it is in fact willful ignorance.
