Default My first time targeting catfish

Let me begin by saying thanks to those that offered me advise for my first catfishing trip. I did not expect to catch any catfish in the morning hours, and I was not disappointed, my wife and I came home with skunk strips down our backs. We shore fished on the West Shore, only a couple of other people in sight this morning there. The weeds were not very bad at all there, very little snagged on the line or bait when reeling in.
Fishing today I learned how to bait and cast using fly-lined mackerel. Also snelling hooks tied to my main line. I have mostly done trout fishing using pretied leaders. I figured it would be easier in daylight to learn. We plan on going back after the kitties some evening soon.

Fishing the night bite will definitely increase your chances, seems like the bite never really even starts until 8:30-9:30 lately....always found a good palomar knot and a 5/0-7/0 hook tied directly to the line with a mack filet (in weeds) or large chunk (for deeper water) works best. Might want to try mack and the head on shrimp together, the combo was the hot ticket at the first tourney for me!
