Default 5 Days in the June Lake Area

    Quick post

Went up to the June Lake Area for a few days with the crew for some much needed fishing.

We set up camp at Silver Lake campgrounds.

A toast to the ones that couldn't be with us this year.

Menu for the next few days

So sad how low Grant Lake is now. It was at full capacity two years ago.

My first catch of this season. Too bad it was my only catch for the whole trip. Threw everything at them. i blame the liquor. Glad I had some PB, or i wouldn't have caught this one. Three more were caught.

Lundy Lake. Only one were caught.

Crowley Lake is more like a pond now. Only two were caught.

Headed to Mammoth for some pizza, beer and some billiards.

Only took me one fish to win heaviest catch for this trip.

Also won some cash with my fishing license.

    Class of 2015

Heard that the fishing wasn't good due to some recent rains which wash fish food into the lakes(something about grubs). The only anglers I seen catching were the fly fishers on tubes, which I was unable to bring on this trip. I won't be leaving it behind next trip.

    thanks for reading.

Thanks for posting, looks like you had fun even without the big numbers of fish. Hope the fishing picks up by the time I make my trip on the 4th.

I read that Hot Creek Hatchery tested positive for whirling disease, and won't plant trout in waters that don't already have that parasite. That can't be good news for the eastern sierras, other than the Owens River.

Hot Creek only stocks PVR, the Owens, and Crowley since the NZ mud snail was discovered there...and that was like 2007, so we're not expecting much if any impact to anywhere else in the ES, especially this year. Word from those in the know also believe the issue is being overblown somewhat - as most of the fish currently in that hatchery will still be stocked because whirling disease has already been found in the Owens in the past.

I was up there just after Memorial Day. Worst fishing trip I've ever had there. Caught only two fish over 3 days, both at Silver. They were nice though, 18" rainbows. Everybody else I talked to was doing bad as well.

Hey people just being up in God's country is enough! Catching fish is a bonus. I am coming up in the last part of July and staying for two months if I can catch a fish each day it would be fantastic.

Yup, true dat. When I go to a pay lake I expect to catch fish but when it's anywhere north of Ridgecrest, and I mean no disrespect to Ridgecrest, it doesn't matter. The reward is being there.
Nice pictures, makes me want to pack up and head out. Some day soon...

Yup, it's great just being up there. Be heading up to Convict next week. It's been yrs since our last stay at Convict. Hope the fish are in the same holes.
