Default First bluefin kill on the aztec !! 5-31-15

    Hey guys hows it going!

    Weather:
3-4 knots of wind throughout the day till around 5 then picked up to 8-10 knots
Swells averaged 2-3ft every 15 seconds

    Area fished:
43 and the corner right along the boarder

    REPORT:
My buddy Frankie and I decided to give a 1.5 day trip a try. We loaded up and got ready couple days prior with gear and decided the Aztec would be good. I have fished with Captain Greg before and I knew he is a very determined captain. We loaded the the gear the day of and off we went to Seaforth. We arrived and there was a bunch of people all getting ready to go out on different boats. Heard the call for the Aztec and we jumped on. The new bunk setup was great very comfortable and roomy. We left the landing around 7:45 to go get bait. Once we got there all the other boats already loaded all the cured bait so we got 1 tank of cured bait, 1 of anchovie chum, and one of fresh caught uncured baits. All the sudden while filling the bait one of the tanks starts the overflow and the drain is plugged up someone dropped a can or a rag down in. So we spent around a hour at the dock and Greg jumped into the bait tank and went for a swim with the chovies and got the clog out.

After the clog was out off we went. I set up my rods with 60-50-40-30 and also brought my lite rod for fun.
We got to the grounds around 4-5am and started fishing. By 5:45am we had three hanging which all broke off. 2 were hooked on the iron and 1 on bait.
Throughout the day we picked fish off 1-3 every couple stops the fish were definitely moving fast and did not want to stop. It was around 12:30pm Greg said there was some fish coming up and everyone get ready to fish the slide. I grabbed my light rod with some random iron i got for free on it and dropped it back real fast. I cranked up half way nothing and re dropped.
About 10 cranks up SLAMMMOOOO im on.
    Fish VS Me:
little did i know i was about to get my *** handed to me. I fought this fish for 1 hour maybe a little more.
my rod was rated 15-40 and i had 65 pound braid to 3 ft of 40 flouro. I was cussing at this fish and people ate lunch while i was hooked up and still had time to fish after that lol. Throughout the fight i would get 3ft and the fish would take 9ft. At around the 30min mark i was beat i was dieing on the bow. The rod I used had 0 back bone so towards the end it was just thumb and pump and crank down. at about 45min we saw DEEEEP color and at this point i knew it was a good fish. All the sudden i had this anger to kill this fish and started going all out. after about 15-20min he comes up and boom 2 gaffs go in and up comes this fish. I instantly sat down and was beat. I won the battle and man was i sooo stoked finally i had landed my first bluefin.
First thing deck hand Aaron did was rip out the heart after Frankie let him know that was my first one. Following tradition i ate it and man this was alot bigger then the yellowfin heart that i had to eat.

We fished more throughout the day but this fish were just not wanting to turn around and eat. I think we hooked around 5 more which were landed and even a couple yellowfin which were around 30-40 pounds. We fished till around 10pm and called the trip. boat total was 19 bluefin and 2 yellowfin. I won jackpot which was awesome!!! first bluefin and first time winning jackpot!!!
Overall it was a great trip won a couple prices from the sponsors on the trip and got to fish with a good group of guys.
The season is just starting and I cant wait to see what comes.

Thank you all for reading the report!!!

The fish scaled out at 60lbs my now personal best Bluefin!!
