Thread: Travel Charging

    Default Travel Charging

Hey guys, I am think about doing either a Havasu trip or River trip. I am wondering how you guys charge your trolling motors at the end of the day when staying at a hotel.

Take a very long extension cord and call ahead and inquire if they have outdoor plug outlets. Or you can buy a charger that works while you are running the big motor. http://www.jonestrollingmotor.com/chargeontherun.htm

I usually rent mooring space at a marina and they have electrical and a plus of not having to launch and load every day.

i don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess my next question is if anyone has any reccomendations on marinas that have mooring and power that are close to good fishing areas.

    Thanks

Big-Bob I don't know what kind of a boat your running but when docked overnight you need to remove your electronics and secure/lock up your gear. Some marinas are more secure than others but better to be safe than sorry. If you stayed for more than a day the daily launch fee saved after the first day will pay for half your dock rental. I don't have any experience with Havasu but the Delta is very big and vast and I routinely make 20 mile runs or more one way and it doesn't take long at 70+ mph.

Thanks Devore. I have a nitro with locking compartments but plan on taking the majority of my gear with me at the end of the day.

Hopefully someone that frequents the lake can chime in with some recommendations.

Look in the Havasu Landing area on the California side. They have a nice marina there that you can launch from. You avoid all the traffic on the AZ side. The casino is there to play at night and eat.

You could get an overnight slip there for sure, but you could also just stay inside the resort and rent a place for pretty cheap. This will allow you to launch everyday and be able to charge at night. If you stay outside the resort you will have to pay a launch fee everyday, but I don't think you will if you stay inside.

A few years ago we stayed at a small hotel right outside of the resort, but I cannot find it for the life of me right now. It could have closed down. Not sure. At that place we could park the boats right outside the room and we just ran the extension cord through the window.

Edit. I found where we stayed. I think they are actually apartments, but she has some rooms she uses like a hotel. Look up Lakeview Apartments. Corner of Showboat and Sunset.

Lots of options at Havasu Landing Resort as well. Nice website you can navigate.

Bringing this back to the top.

Never ended up going to Havasu when this thread was made but we're considering going now.

Anyone have any recommendations for hotels or resorts with slips/electrical?

Also any input on where to fish north or south would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Not Havasu, but a couple times a year I go to Cottonwood (Lake Mohave). Nice Marina, with electrical, and both hotel rooms and a campground right by the launch. Locked gate to access Marina along with nighttime security (but I still pull my gear out of the boat). Downside is that you need an NV license (not expensive, get it online).

Willow Beach has very nice facilities....marina with slips and electrical. RV / Tent campgrounds, marina store, fish cleaning station, etc. There's also a hotel/casino about 15-20 mins away
