not a 22 incher!!!
Butt, a 22 pounder! My friend Ken invited me to go buttin at Santa Rosa Island on his 18 parker. We
our day at 5, and ran up the coast to check on a possible squid spawn. Arrived at daylight, and
unfortunately, no squid to be had. However, we made a bunch of nice sized spanish, greenbacks, and even
a few 8 to 12 in barracuda on the sabikis. Then it was off to Santa Rosa Island. Visibility was fantastic
yesterday, with easily 30 mile vis clear as a bell. Arrived in record time, as the swell was minimal at most.
Worked the 70 to 80 foot line in clear water, but hampered by alot of eel grass, so made for alot of
working the gear to stay clean. Only had the 1 bite in Betchers, so moved to Rhodes Reef, where we couldn't
keep the lings off our gear, sometimes having 3 going at once. We hit a deep spot before heading in, and Ken
pulled in a nice 10 pound ling to round out our limits of those. But a minor sunburn also, but an absolutely
beautiful day on the big pond.
