Their greatness is mutually exclusive. Montana played 16 yrs, Rice 19yrs... they played 8 yrs together and won 2 Super Bowls... So Montana got 2 without Rice and Rice got 1 without Montana.

Even while they were on the same team... One didn't carry the other. Joe was great because of his command of the offense and finding the open man. Rice was great because he was the best at making himself the open man or best option more often than the other guys on the field.

What makes them the greatest ever is that they elevated their play in the biggest games. Rings and clutchness and undefeatedness ABSOLUTELY count when rating the best ever.

You act like Elway never played with good players around him. Did none of his receivers have anything to do with his completions? Did he throw the ball AND catch it for his receivers?
