Four years of drought and excessive fish taking have made Deep Creek a place where it's easy to say, "You should have been here a few years ago....when it was a fisherman's dream". Best bet is for you to come up from the bottom and try the lower pools. For some reason, they seem to see less pressure. Accessing from the top is much less access friendly to get to areas that are not inundated with folks playing in the water (think San Gabriel canyon style crowds) and there have been repeated reports in the local paper about car break-ins on weekends.

there were plenty of fish to be caught this last fall.
Drought scares people away when this happens it makes great fishing for the hardy fishermen
just try and practice good catch and release skills and don't play the fish too long
Deep creek is Still a great place to fly fish

i never really have paid attention in the last 15 years
Have always just used Barbless flies
DFG hand book should say if bait is allowed

here you go i looked it up

    (55) Deep Creek (San Bernardino Co.)
from headwaters at Little Green Valley to confluence of Willow Creek.
All year. Only artificial lures with 2
    barbless hooks may be used.
