Thread: Best bet for halibut for newbees?

  1. #1

Default Best bet for halibut for newbees?

I don't want anyone to give away their secret spot, but my son and I are just starting out using lures in the surf and we would like to try for some halibut. Is there a good beach/spot to try? You can PM me if you want. Also, is there any literature about the basics of Southern California surf fishing, especially fishing for halibut? Outfits, lines, lures, tides, time of day, areas, etc.? Thanks!

The link Cadillyak posted has a wealth of information. I stumbled upon it last week when I figured that I would try surf fishing for a change. You can also do a Google search and you should be able to find a lot of information for catching California halibut. Good luck and hope to see you out there sometime.
