    Default DOMOIC ACID WARNING

EVERYONE CEASE COASTAL FISH CONSUMPTION FOR A WHILE, THESE MASS KILLS ARE FROM AN UNUSUALLY HIGH AMMOUNT OF DINOFLAGELATES. DONT EAT ANY CALIFORNIA SPINY LOBSTER OR SPIDER CRABS, AND AVOID ALL SHELLFISH! THIS IS WHY EVERYTHING IS DYING ON THE BEACH!

IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO EAT COASTAL FISH, REMOVE AS MUCH VISCERA AS POSSIBLE, AND CLEAN THEM WELL! DOMOIC ACID IS HEAT-STABLE, COOKING WILL ****NOT**** DESTROY IT!

IF USING MUSSEL AS BAIT, WASH HANDS, AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM YOUR FACE.

    It helps to look here.

    Or the CDC.

No need to start a panic. Does anybody know of anyone who has become ill as a result of eating or handling any of these products?

Where did you get the info from? There has not been that many dead animals to immedietly blame it on the D. Acid, unless there is an article I missed. Its a common problem but I have not read of anything recent about it. I guess i could email my bio professor, but she hasn't mentioned anything about it either in class, and she's a bio nerd. Also, might want to give the animal rehab center a call, on PCH and Newland. they are the ones that were dealing with the dying birds in Huntington a a couple of months ago. I would imagine they would be on top of things.

Oh, and one leg, looks like your article is from 2002.

Smokehound is just tryin' to give us a heads-up. I did hear about this on the news this AM and I for one will take heed. They are talking about it on the other fishing sites as well. And they've also started the mussel quarantine early this year.........& #46;.
AND I am aware of at least one fisherman I know getting sick after holding his wet line in his mouth for a few moments...
    Just be careful guys.

Here is the article from the OC Register this morning.

I don't think it is anything to panic about. We go through red tide from time to time.

Science Dude says the affect on humans is minimal. Just don't eat sardines and shellfish from the local coast for a while.
