Default Why do scuba divers always fall backward into the water?

Because if they fall forward they will land in the boat!

When I started we jumped in fins first holding the mask. Different place and time in my life, remember Voit, US Divers or Sea Quest? That was my time frame (1960-1970). And the Abalone were thick in So Calif back then.

It's to keep our face mask seal to the face from breaking causing water to enter or even worst, the mask and snorkel can be ripped away. It was Sea Hunt for
me and 70's era Abalone Steaks and Lobster. Good times!

    We don't!
We just do it sometimes because it simpler, and so cool!
It's typical used on a small boat.
On larger or cattle boats, it's always the giant step!
On small boats, just hang your tank and your A off the side and roll baby roll!
In any case don't forget to hold your mask.
