I am very new to surf fishing and fishing on the sand for the most part.
Usually just fish for fun on the jetties or docks.
Ive tried baitcasting last year, still havent got the hang of it( bird ness problems ).

looking forward to meeting some of you guys!

Welcome to the site, Lots of places to fish around here. Try the LBC just read the articles and get some tips. As for the birds nests keep the thumb on the spool all the way through the cast. Practice at a local park with a casting weight.

Welcome to board. Plenty of helpful info on this site.

As for the bird's nest. Keep at it. I suggest tightening down the spool so the spool doesn't spin too fast and keep your thumb on the spool. practice makes perfect. When I first started casting baitcaster, I would tie on an ounce weight and take my rod and reel to the school across the street from me and just practice casting. Key is to keep enough pressure on spool so the line doesn't get too loose and gets birds nest and of course, know how to slow-stop spool before weight hits land/water.

Good luck. You'll get it down in no time.
