Jackpot! 3/15 Island Spirit
Headed out with a couple friends Saturday for the 3/4 day trip on the Island Spirit out of Ventura. Light or no wind all day long. We stopped at a deeper spot a bit short of Santa Cruz first thing in the morning, and it was fish on every drop. Fished most of the day using an 8oz Ahi diamond jig in Mackerel pattern. Pulled in a few smaller ones before getting a beast of a salmon grouper. Limits could have easily been pulled by about 10am but captain wanted to make a move to get some diversity and keep the trip a 3/4 day instead of half. Headed to shallower water between Santa Cruz and Anacapa. Fishing was slower there but people were still hooking up.
By the end of the day everyone had limits of assorted rockfish. My salmon grouper ended up scoring me the $230 jackpot. Great day of fishing, the crew and captain on the Island Spirit were fantastic. Great way to have an early birthday celebration.
