Ex-Dodger Pedro Guerrero recovering from apparent stroke

    By Steve Dilbeck

Former Dodgers star Pedro Guerrero has been hospitalized in the Dominican Republic after suffering an apparent stroke.

The Dodgers said Guerrero was admitted to a hospital Sunday in Santo Domingo by his wife, Roxana Guerrero de Jimenez, at around noon after initially losing mobility in his left arm. He was placed in the intensive care unit for treatment of what multiple reports said was a stroke, though the Dodgers were careful to call it bleeding on the brain.

The Dodgers said Guerrero, 58, has since regained movement in his arm and on Monday was being further examined by neurologists.

His wife told the Dominican Republic newspaper Diario Libre that Guerrero was in good spirits Monday and had asked to eat.

Guerrero spent nearly 11 years with the Dodgers and finished in the Los Angeles Dodgers' top 10 in batting average (.309, fourth), home runs (171, fifth) and extra-base hits (364, eighth).

Since 2011 he has been coaching and managing in the minor leagues. Last season he was manager of the team in Monclova in the Mexican minor leagues.
