    Default Lake Skinner 11/8 kayak

Lunched from ramp 2 around 630, fished with crankbaits on my baitcast set up and the duorealis spinbait 80 on my light tackle spin set up. I landed a few bass on my crankbaits, nothing big. Landed one bass on the spinbait and towards the end of my day as im starting my paddle back to the ramp, i see in my fishfinder something big sitting in this little channel, i back tracked and threw out my 16 foot crankbait, second cast out,BAM! I thought i hit the biggest bass of my life, my kayak starts getting pulled out to deeper water, well it wasent a bass but a 14 pound catfish. I dont carry a net in my kayak so I had to fish him out of the water by hand, a little easier said than done. Well once i got him in the kayak and fished the lure out of it mouth, that took forever, I put him on a rope, back in the water and paddled over to a boater nearby. He hooked it up with a picture, Thanks David! Fished a bit longer, but it was a pain to do it with the catfish tied to the kayak, I could feel him dragging me around and it was like paddling with a drift sock attached.I caught a few more dinks and paddled back to the launch ramp. Saw some kids fishing at the ramp, let them see the fish and take some pictures, came home, now we are having some deepfried catfish for dinner !

I saw the picture and knew that has to be a good time but on a crankbait is over the top.

    Nice catch!

Thanks guys, it was a memorable experience for sure. I wish the picture I took of the fish as i just took him out of the water with the crankbait in mouth had come out better, all you could see was the bill and tip of the head. He inhaled it and it was a pain getting those hooks out.

Awesome cat. How did it taste? My experience with cats from Skinner have a mossy or mud taste. Curious to hear if there is a way to clean them to get rid of that taste. Once again, great fish.

It was pretty good, I usually cut the skin around the head then down from the top to the tail, peel the skin back with pliers, this part sucks, once the skin is off fillet the meat off the rib cage first then work your way back to tail, my wife the soaks the fillets in heavy cream for a while, the we bread them using whatever fish mix is at the store, deep fry em, She also makes a dip but I don't know what it is

Thanks for the tip. Maybe the heavy cream draws out the moss taste. I'll try it.
