Me and my buddies are prepping to buy some hoops to go on his boat out of dana. I've heard it's rough hooping off the rocks. Some different friends used to go to San Clemente pier but they never fared all that well.

get ur fish license/ salt h20 add on / lobster card. fill out card in the parking lot wherevr u gonna go.... 99% chance u gonna lose or snag ur hooop against the rocks... (u might as well give it away to a diver u gonna find it later) pier may be a better option. . u allowd 2 nets on pier per person. 99c store make a bait cage outta those wire mesh trays.. way cheaper than $10 one they sell at tackle store... zip tie and carabiner... ; lobster gage is a must also. learn how to use.... gud luck

Jarhead u really need a boat. I bought an inflatable and outboard for 450 which works well. Checkout craigs list

Also u will need lights, life jacket, flares and a whistle/horn to be legal....and a fire extinguisher if its more than an inflatable.

here is a tip that i learned the hard way.
dont lunch at cabrillo for overnight fishing/hooping.
the gates close at 10:00pm. no exiting until 5:00 am. i chose to leave before 10.
launches in long beach are 12 dollars for 24 hours and open 24 hours.
