Default Early morning trying a different bait

Hit up the beach at 6 fished till 745, only 2 fish took on "fresh" smelt both Shovelnose

Think I am back to lures and squid, the smelt just didn't produce even any interest other than the shovelnose

That's not a bad choice of bait considering the grunion run that's "supposed" to be occuring. Might try and different stretch of sand, but yes, you will more than likely have to contend with the flatfish of the wrong kind.

    Good luck out there...

I think the smelt works better off a jetty than a beach.
