Thread: Tuna - Dana Landing

    Default Tuna - Dana Landing

Six of us charted the Impulse out of Dana Landing, San Diego. A 5am to 5pm trip. We heard Coronado was a little slow, so we decided to go out around 40 miles or so to the reef. Morning was a little slow, tried to follow the birds and whales. Found small schools of Yellow Fin, not really cooperating. Lots of fish boiling, even a couple of marlin. Afternoon bite started to pick up, even had 3 YF on at one time, twice. Ended up the day with 22 YF from 10-15 lbs. All in all, a good day! The Captain of the Impulse, Keith, and Harry, worked very hard for us. One of the best crews, I have fished with. If you are looking for a charter for a small group, I would highly recommend the Impulse. Its a 42 footer that got some giddyup, 20+ knots, bunks, the whole works. Great food and cold beer. Till next time....

    RL-IN-OC,

    Thanks for the report.

I'd say a 5-5 trip producing 22 YFT is a great trip :) . It's nice to see some YFT being caught, and looks like you all had a great time.

Hi CPR, not at all, the cost of the 5-5 was $1,650, 275 per. Sounds pricey, but, this includes everything but gratuity. Gear, breakfast, lunch, beer and soda. Better yet, he's not a clock watcher, we rolled into the barn about 6:00 pm. As far as the weather, we heard of the weather during the week, high winds and 6 foot swells. No wind, but the swells were about 4-6 in 7 second intervals. A little rough going out in a small boat. 2 of the guys were "chumming" most of the day, even with patches and bonine. Smooth sailing downwind on the way home though. We will definitely charter this boat again.
