    Default San Antonio 7-8

On vaca here in San Luis. Plan was to hit SA hard today, gauge the bite and reevaluate my weeks fishing plans.

Lake is at 27 percent and I had fears the bako boy ramp was inaccessible to my two wheel drive truck.. So I headed to the South Marina and Harris creek ramps..

Good lord! You guys that go that route thru Nacimeiento need to get that head examined. 15 mins longer than the North shore and very hilly and hard on brakes with a trailer..

Anyway, MO says lake opens at 530, I arrived at 545 because of the longer route.. Gates don't open till 6.

AND they do not accept Castaic or Pyramid bands! You heard it! Prepare yourselves.

Anyway hit the ramp and found a very silted ramp which made it snotty. But he handled it.

Headed straight to striper alley.. fog thick that way. 20 mins and ZZZZZZZ!!

My boy worked it in perfectly, into the net she went. His first San Antone striper

Lake is way low. Only 16 feet in the middle of the lake at the bako boy ramp. And between the bako boy ramp and the south marina it bottle necks down to about only 300 yds wide of lake for east to west.

From three fingers north the lake only hits 35 ft. Most everything north of Harris is untrollable along the banks as it is too shallow for approx 200 yds away from bank.

Striper alley and the house boat run is still manageable but the waters are really down to striker alley, the dam, and the center of the lake in flat mud bottom.

I did hit 97 ft in the deepest by the damn. Normally its 167 ft

Water temp is 77 warming to 80.

I was one of three striper guys out there and was the only one with fish. They were locals and you know how they like their flat line trolling

Great job Mike on the recon!

Fortunately you didn't drive down there just to fish SA and your making it a family vacation.

We all know how tough SA can be!

I still say you go back at least one more time before heading home. I think fish might be just spooked from 4th of July and you just might have a completely different experience going back tomorrow or Thursday. You did say Wednesday is the best day to fish. Just saying...

    Hehe. Good times...

Talked to Bob last night. Darned near choked to death on a cheeseburger.

I have vid of realese of the striper. You can tell I'm not accustomed to releasing technique's

No boil activities. Though the terns constantly were looking into the water as if active feeding. Didn't see one with a bait fish and none flew.

    Did see a golden eagle!
