The Wood has been a a tough Mistress to fish and learn. First off finding fish-able shores with fish, and somewhere where you won't fall 15 50 ft if you screw up.
That all said and a few skunk trips last night the Wood gave up some fish!!!!!
I broke my cherry n my new rig and caught one of my biggest freshwater fish to date.
Since I always ask where good spots are I am going to give it up here, take the dirt road on the left at the dam go in 2 miles to the shaded picnic tables there are two of them go to the point and fish. The coves and points take your pick but I feel the points give you better chance to catch fish.
Compact cars can make the trek but go slooooooooooow. Also if you are not happy with hiking , then hiking uphill with all your **** don't bother, I have lost about 20 lbs and 10 of those lbs were walking back to my car!!!!
Hot set up fro me was 20lb test, sliding swivel with 2oz pyramid sinker , bead , swivel, 4 ft leader 20lb test chicken liver and a big hook size and make unknown, (I know Lame) but learning. Basic Carolina set up but modified with the sliding swivel.
The low down on this was 2 dink strippers, and 2 fat cats, I was hit at least 25 times and most of those strikes were baby strippers, if I went to a smaller hook I would have caught 20 + fish, but I don't want small fish so I just put up with it. It reminds me of tuna fishing and getting past the crap tuna , when you did you hit a nice yellowtail. The same held true last night.
First trip to the Wood where all the bait was used and used up quickly. Tonight I am taking two tubs of liver and two mack!!!
