Default Sat. 4/6 Big bear lk. trolling

Its been awhile since I last posted , I went Pismo clam diving last weekend and today Big Bear lk. , BUT I cant post pics as photo bucket says Iam needing a .net framework for uploads and this site cant upload pics either ? I hate posting without pics , ha Cool pics from both weekends but oh well , I'll figure it out , ha Today was my first day trolling BIG BEAR lk. and I headed out from the east launch ramp and headed over to the Observatory as a friend trolled midweek and gotem there . This morning I started trolling at about 9:00 am and it was slow until I got in front of Grout bay [ the east side of grout bay theres a rocky point , like a jetty and this place was doing good for some shore guys . I was trolling a flat line cd3 rapala firetiger and the other side a needlefish firetiger at 2.50 colors lead line . Both rods were slammed several times right in front of Grout bay [ windy point area ] and had 3 nice fat 13 inch redmeated rainbows in my basket hanging over the side by about 10:30 when I heard a loud deep grumbling sound of an airplane fly over and I thought a WWII fighter plane , picked up my binos to see it was a modern plane having problems staying in the air . I watched this plane flying east from the west dam towards the airport we the plane just started losing altitude and about 1/4 mile west on the south shore from the Stanfield cutoff this plane stalled at about 50-100 ft. up started rolling over on its right side and crashed into the lk. I could'nt believe what I saw a splash of water at least 3 stories tall . I just floored my boat top speed over to the spot and found the plane up side down with a wing ripped off in about 3 feet of water . The 4 people inside were already climbing out and were wading to shore . I pulled up to the plane with the smell of fuel in the water and yelled out if everyone got out and they said yes . An older guy[ pilot ] his son with pregnant wife with like a 2 year old kid . I stayed around until all the rescue trucks , boats came over and had to give a witness report , I finally remembered my basket over the side of boat and it was ripped off and only had a rope left , ha got pics of plane as I was like 3 feet away looking inside for someone . Fishing will only get better from now on as the Observatory area will stay good for lures fished SLOW until early may , when you'll need to pick up the trolling speed just a little and giveem a half nite crawler behind a dodger . If I can figure this picture thing out I'll post pics / db

I heard about that plane crashing into the lake on the radio. Glad they all survived.

Daaaaayaaaam! You need to put a post up on a prior post asking what's the craziest thing you have seen while fishing.

Glad everyone was ok and that you were ok too.

As for crazy...the craziest thing I ever saw was when I was fishing in the Sierras and saw a female trying to fish and she slipped in the river on a boulder and pulled her toe nail all the way back and her fishing rod went up her shorts up her back. She was fishing in the river without shoes. I helped her up, cut her fishing line, separated her fishing pole and helped her out of the water. Her toe nail was pretty nasty...blood and pulled back. Helped her bandage it up with a first aid kit I had with me. Good thing I had it my backpack while hiking and fishing!

My story sure don't beat an airplane crashing, but the fishing rod up her shorts was a rare site pho show!

    Anyone else???

Default "Full Service" Diamondbear to the Rescue!

To Steve- It was good to see you at DVL a few weeks ago. Hope you had a little better luck then we did with your kitties. Great news about Big Bear trolling. We're heading up to do some trolling in about a month. I'm really glad the lake has rebounded the past few years. Heard the water level was down 6'.

That was quite a heroic response reacting to the plane crash. I'm sure the people in the plane were a little disoriented and it was good that you gave them the advice to get out. You were extremely gracious to make sure that they were all safe. Way to go Steven!

Actually , the people on the plane got themselves out and were already getting on shore when I pulled up . The pilot knew he was going down but he kept flying hundreds of yards with the nose up allowing it to lose air speed and stall , turned out good anyway as that water is cold and would of hated to half to get wet , ha . I just found the fish and was a good bite , didnt feel like fishing anymore that day , but I'll be back next weekend for sure .

bad things always happen on Big Bear. I was fishing a bass tournament up there last june, and I was fishing the point outside of grout bay when a car flew off the point and landed in the water 30 ft from my boat.
