Default Last 2 times at Pyramid Finally got some fish, and my poor dog...

Went out with my first mate (my dog Bolo) on March 20.

After failing in previous attempts for stripers, I decided to hunt for black bass.

Met Bob and bassfan as they were slayin the stripes. I was determined to stick to my plan.

Fishing for food is not my priority, so I don't mind fishing for "green carp". Hell, if carp were as sporty as bass and hit lures, I'd fish for them all day long.

I quickly pulled in a nice largemouth on a grub. Woo hoo! Felt great to have something pull my line!

Later in the day I caught a smallmouth on a crankbait.

Saw a lot of bass in shallow, but they didn't want what I had to offer.

    Called it a day.

    DAY 2, 3-25

Headed out in search of black bass again.

Fished in shallow up a cove and hooked up a striper.

Go figure! Finally got me a Pyramid Jailbird.

    Then the worst thing happened...

After about 2 hours I was fishing that picnic area between the dam and yellow bar, I hear my dog screaming!

He had a big crankbait in his face.

One treble was completely through his ear, and while freaking out, he got another lodged in his nostril.

I grabbed my pliers and struggled to keep him still. Got hooked about 10 times myself.

Was able to cut the hook in his nose and pull the one out of his ear.

The worst feeling ever. I feel so guilty. I am normally super careful keeping hoooks over the boat. But in haste, I set my rod down and I think he ran into it while jumping to another bench on the boat.

With half a hook lodged in his nostril, I hauled *** (4.5 mph) back to the launch to go to a vet.

On the way the sheriff stopped me for not going counter-clockwise. When I told him about my dog he continued to lecture me and gave no help on searching for a vet. I asked if I could moor my boat for a couple hours so I didn't have to take the time to load my boat in my truck, and he said no. I had a great opinion of those guys until this.

Finally found a vet and $430 later, he's doing fine. We were lucky that it was his nose and ear and not his eye or something worse. I am thankful that he only ended up with 2.

    See ya next time!

OUCH! too bad about the dog and you are on the boards now without a stripe on your back. I would rather catch catfish than dogfish.
