    Default Surf Report 2/28/2013

Well, guys. Today I woke up with the itch to hit the surf and see if there were any perch that wanted to bite out at my usual spot. I also wanted to try these Berkley fish grippers I just bought. Grabbed my gear, and headed toward the beach. High tide in the area was to be at 10:44 AM, so I arrived around 7:30, in the water around 7:45. Right away noticed the surf on this incoming was a bit higher than my last trip, and it was evident by me being soaked by a couple of wild breakers. Oh well, I kept it pushin to some structure I was able to see, and fired a couple of casts into some adjacent pockets. I was rigged up with a carolina rigged 2" Bass Pro Squirmin Grub, scented with Pro Cure Calico Cocktail. The result was a couple of nice little fighters, maybe like 9-10 inches? I kept walkin south, catching a couple of small perch in the process. I got to one of my favorite little holes, a small rocky trough, maybe like 10-15 feet long, and hooked up into the biggest fish of the day, a 14" female piglet. She had a serious wound on her left side, like a cormorant or somethin tried to get her. Took a couple of pics, then let her go on her way. After that, the action slowed down quite a bit. Called it a day around 11:00. Fish total was 7 Perch, the biggest goin 14", down to palm sized fish. Not too extraordinary, but I had to get my fix. Now Im off to Santa Barbara to hop on the Stardust tomorrow mornin!

    Thanks for readin guys!!!

    Thumbs up

Somebody's been hunting Perch in the surf with pellet/bb guns...
Always amazes me how resilient these fish are.
    Well done on the session.

Looks like that lucky guy might have avoided being a meal for a sea dog. Glad he got away so that you could catch him. Nice job out there!

Seven perch is not bad at all especially with a 14' in the line-up. Nice job.
I've been getting the itch lately too. Hopefully I get to scratch it soon.
    Thanks for the report

I'm betting that injury was from a snagger on a nearby pier. One of the reasons they should outlaw snagging.
