I would think he'd spend more time stalking fish and less time stalking peoples' posts. Or hey maybe even enrolling in some grammar/spelling classes since he seems to be lacking for someone so opinionated. Regardless I've been hunting since I was seven years old. I consider myself a true outdoorsman. My father taught me from day one that you dont kill anything if you dont intend to eat it. I catch and release all fish except for stocked fish which get eaten as well. I dont feel that I should have explain myself or my intentions to a contrarian. I am aware that people think jackrabbit meat sucks compared to cottontails but with the proper marination (buttermilk or beer) those bad boys come out tasting better and sweeter. The rule of thumb I go by is dont hunt them in months that dont have an "R" and always check the livers for disease.

With that said I am available to go whenever you are. I have some spots that most hunters do not know about and have been confirmed to be legal by DFG.
I also eat a a lot of jackrabbit. I have about 15 pounds off butchered jack meat vacuum sealed in my freezer. My wife, daughter and myself prefer it to cottontail. I don't cook whole rabbits. Instead I butcher them out by removing the backstraps and the hams. The front legs and ribs are useless IMO. Had some terriyaki stir fried Jack last week. I also have an amazing fajita recipe that every person who has tried it went back for seconds, even after I told them what they were eating, he he he. Anyways, drop me a PM and let me know what you have in mind.

No you may call your self a killer and it's probably correct since you are going to help this guy who probably
is not even licensed to hunt . His B.S. about making a "new rabbit skin coat" tells all !
Nobody uses rabbit skin for a coat . The fur pelt is used to make a coat . Also only tacky
women wear them not men ! The last time I even saw someone wear one was in the 1970's .
Now he says his Father taught him not to kill anything you don't intend to eat. But he needs a Rabbit coat?

If he was a Hunter he would of wrote who want's to HUNT SOME Rabbit's Not WHO WANT"S TO KILL SOME.

Now you eat Jack Rabbit's ? A known disease carrier that can
make humans sick just from handling them . A Desert Jack Rabbit
Is lean and has almost no fat and lots of muscle tissue . It has
got to be one of the worst things I can think of to eat . Hunters
who enjoy Rabbit get Snow Shoe Hares or settle for cotton tails.
Both of those Rabbits have more meat and fat and actually taste
    good .

I am NOT a killer . I am a Hunter who takes the life of his prey for purpose of bringing home something I like
to eat that you can't buy in Supermarket . I enjoy the preparation , being in remote natural places and the
tracking and stalking of the game I hunt . When it come time to take it's life I do so with no pleasure . My only
focus is that I do so HUMANELY ending it's life with no suffering . If I have any doubt I can't make a clean head shot then I will wait till I can or pass it up and continue my hunt.

I do use any instinctive behavior to hunt.
I rely on the training I received from my Father and information from various media as well as prior experiences.
Also I have taken the time to always learn everything I could find about the game I hunt. Knowing it's natural
and instinctive behaviors tell me what it needs to exist and where it can be found .

A KILLER finds enjoyment in the process of killing and does so without a reason . This is why we do not call
members of our Armed Services killers. They may have to do so in times of war but do not find pleasure in it.
Those that do are a small percent of abnormal people often psychopaths . The rest are doing something that
must be done and do not think of themselves as killers.

I don't lie to my self I know exactly what I am and how and why I hunt .
You consider your self a killer and think it's a predatory instinct . That's a MINDSET that is only half correct.
You may be a killer but as far as having a predatory instinct well that's not very probable . Most humans have
evolved away from predatory instincts because It's not needed to get food from the Supermarket or their
favorite restaurants . You were probably fed and had your needs met most likely by your parents until you
completed High School . This the way it's been for say a 100 years or more for most humans.
Instinctive behavior not used continuously becomes a recessive trait and can not be called upon at will every once in a while when you go hunting .
The exception are the Tribes and Indigenous people who rely on hunter gatherer skills every day just like the prior generations of their people.Who for hundreds of years have to rely upon those instincts for their day to day survival .
It's a use it or lose it rule of nature . We lost it in the process of becoming civilized in the modern era.

So you can call yourself a killer who's predatory instincts make you want to hunt .
But that's not me . I go into the field with an ethical purpose armed with knowledge to guide me to
what I am seeking . When the moment comes to take it's life I do so with skills well
practiced . Finding no thrill in causing it's death feeling only a sense of satisfaction that it was done right.
I will never be a killer, I will always be a Hunter .

I'm not a hunter! I'm a wildlife population control specialist.

End of season for cottontail pic.

This might be the wrong post to ask for some help lol. I would like to go rabit hunting. I have a 1200 fps pelet gun that im sure would get the job done, and i also have a little raven .25 lol. What is the season, months that start with "r"? What is the difference between cottontails, and jack rabbits? Where can you hunt...itn's it like a mile away from any road or building? (i live in the dessert.)
    Thanks
    Christian

Cottontail are smaller and you can start hunting them as of July 1 that is when the season open on them. Jack are bigger and have longer ear and legs then cottontail and you can hunt them all year round. As for shooting you have to be 150 yards away from a building. Since you live in the desert you will have jacks.

Yes but in the desert they are rare. If you have a shotgun that will be your best bet to get a jack once they start running they don't stop for a while. Jacks have black on the tips of the ears. What part of the desert do you live?
