Where to get mussels

i want some mussels for bait and dont really wanna pay. what beaches can i go to to get some.. the mussels along the rocks or hooked on the structures and what not.. anybody know where is a good place to gather them? thanks *JBfish*

Alamitos bay jetties. Go during low tide

bay mussels- in harbors virtually everywhere. Just go during a low tide of -0.40 feet and lower and you'll have easy access.

California Mussels- rocks on open beaches. California mussels are much more desirable to fish, much meatier.
