Default My "$100 boat"........PIC HEAVY!!!! BEWARE

Since I sold my Champion last year I was in a market for a more fuel economical nearshore rockfish/striper killing machine.

Searched Craigslist and found this Starcraft for $550. Ended up being a lot more work than I had hoped and offered the guy $300, he didn't wanna sell it but didn't want to keep it either soooooo.. $300 bones it was.

I then resold the old Merc 50 on it for $200 to a "collector" of sorts of old outboards.. Hence the $100 boat..

Yeah, I know when you see the pics your going to realize it was WAY more than a $100 dollar boat. However I stress that everything I have done was periodical so in the end I am in NO debt and now I have this for my efforts.

When I picked her up, May 19th

    1968 Starcraft Star Trek V 18.5 ft

You could see through the transom

First thing I did was change the bearings and seals

Came with a Bimini, I plan to change the material but thats down the road. For now it will do

Trailer came from a long way away

My dad and I chopping off excess steel on the trailer.

    Got some paint on it

Meanwhile she sits on the ground

Trailer done with added step sides

    Now back to the boat.

Sealed all the holes, and epoxied every rivot and seam for extra security

Some minor electrolysis from the plywood motor plate..

Soon it was time to flip her over and paint

I initially had a white stripe but scrapped that

Floor replacement and Transom time.. All covered in epoxy and reinforced with glass

    Bow support

tongues made to screw each piece together and also for double thick seat supports

Made a false floor for a battery compartment

I layed in it for size comparison

    epoxied topcoat

    Put the splashwell back in

Ya'll remember that horseshoe casting deck well I upgraded it to a user friendly casting deck.. Cut the ears off and attached a square front, upgraded the supporting of the deck, added two hatches and VIOLA

You can see the ears here

I salvaged a fiberglass console from a shot up abandoned boat out in the desert. This boat was originally a CC and the console was crap plywood

Patched it with glass and reinforced it

oh yeah, I had painted the inside

I recessed the hinges for the deck compartment doors

I bought some Nautolex Marine vinyl and installed.. AWESOME stuff!!!

I kinda stopped taking pics at this point... I will continue with more

The rebuild on the trailer looks great, looks sturdy enough to take you any where you want to go. Starcraft is a very nice brand. I see that it is made quite well lots of ribs on the floor board. The transom appears to coming along and you will have one tough enough to hold any of the lighter 4 stroke motors. Don't knopw if you have anything picked out now, new or used but whatever it will be the transsome should hold it without any trouble.

I found a nice BRAND NEW practically boat on Craigslist down in Temecula a guy had bought and threw on an ugly tri hull for DVL... Left Bako at 600 am and got home around 3pm with this bad boy and alllllll its toys!!

Motor only had 20 hrs on it.. I bought it for 3600 bucks and seats, gauges, motor, controls, fish finder, down rigger.. etc etc...

    My two boats

Raped out the trihull donor boat

And here she is.. All done up

Thanks for looking and hopefully see some of you out on the water!

I know title says 100... but all in all I estimate between 5-5500 I spent over th 7 months it took me to rebuild this 44 year old rig...
I still have a few things to do. For instance put a buttseat/lean post on the casting deck and that seat in the pics just forward of the passenger seat, and install a Trolling motor

Old WW2 surplus aluminum sure was made right back then.
