Default Rpt-Sun-11-25-12 Local Calico Bass on the chew!

Fishing Sun. 11-25-12, with Lal on his 18’ boat the “Rubber Ducky”. We launched out of Davies in Long Beach at 5:00 am, our beginning destination being the Palos Verdes Coast. We were thankful for no fog and there was little wind, with a slight breeze out of the South East. As we exited the Harbor, the seas were calm, with only a small swell

Lal set a course for an area that has recently produced some excellent Calico Bass fishing, with a few mixed in Sand Bass and Rockfish. The tide was approaching a high of 5.5 feet and this projected for a productive early morning bite.

The first couple of drifts did not disappoint, the Calico Bass were on the chew, and eagerly attacked a falling plastic lure, or a slow wind off the bottom. We had a good flurry of fishing for about an hour, each catching a limit plus. Then it became a slow pick for another hour and then it virtually came to a screeching halt!

Lal took a look at a variety of rocks and structure spots, where we had one short shot at the Sand Bass and then picked away at a variety of Rockfish, Coppers, Gophers, Johnny Bass, Lingcod, Cabazon and a Sculpin. We caught maybe half a dozen Bass after 8am.

We worked our way back to the harbor, and that was it on the catching and we called it a day at 1:00pm. The wind never exceeded 6 knots, although Father Sun never made an appearance. We ended the day with over 35 Bass and 10 Rockfish. All fish were released to fight another day. A few pictures of the bigger Sand Bass, as all the Calico Bass were between 2 and 2.5 pounds:

Thanks Lal, another fun adventure on the Ducky!

    Hook up! Cory
