    Default Big Bear 11/11/12 Report

Headed to big bear lake this am and had the powerbait soaking before sunrise. It was -12C when I arived, but at least it wasn't windy. Had a beautiful calm morning. The lake was really cooling down and had made a pretty dense fog cover over the lake. It was kind of a slow start with a few light bighters that would just drop it. Then Hooked one around 7:30, another around 9 and the last around 10 am. Maybe this weather that just went through turned them off a bit. Left the lake around 11:30 cause it was getting pretty windy and chilly! Plus I had been surrounded by fisherman. I'm not a big fan of military style fishing lined up along the bank. I'll post a video later after its made!

Thanks for the report! Me too, not a fan of large crowds. Last time we were there was the Spring, it was cold and windy, we got nothing but skunk. Anyway, I'm going to spend a few days vacation at BBL next week and I'm planning to fish from the shore. Can you tell me how long your leader was?

Three fish make for a great dinner. Whats keeping you from going out on the yak?

    1) Leader length was 24 inches.

    2) I am not heading out on the kayak cause I like fishing from shore when it is freezing cold, that way I'm not getting wet on the kayak too.

    3) Weeds everywhere, had to pull the fish through.

    4) Here is the video I promised.

Next time try a leader about 6 feet long. It allows the bait to float up above the weeds and boulders, which are everywhere in BBL.

Actually if you look at the shoreline there are no big boulders which usually holds true following the bottom contour into the lake. I also think after the end of the weed line there isn't much for weeds. I was casting about twice the distance as it was to pass the edge of the weeds. So in this case the longer leader wasn't getting any bites at all when I tried one about 4 feet long. The only people catching fish in this area that day were using shorter leaders around 24 inches.

I have never used a 6 foot leader though, and if I ever happen upon a day when I'm not getting into any action I'll try it out.
