Quick recap - 4th of July at Bolsa Chica
Donny (bachiboy) calls up my buddy and says lets go fish Bolsa Chica on the 4th. We can go early and have the wives and kids meet us later (Donny's a thinking man) . So I get the call and we decide to get there at 6:00 am when the gates open. Ended up getting there at 6:20 as there was a long line at the gate to get in. As soon as we pull in, Donny looks over and a fella I've never met (but I felt like I did) pulls up right next to us.
I ask, are you Pontoon? Sure enough it was! Donny had met Terry on a couple other outings but it was my first time meeting the man who's posts on his quest to become a SWAT certified member kept me from my daily work for many hours.
Turns out Terry and John (Nipple twister) planned to meet up for some fishing and we just happened to crash their party. Here's the crew heading out
Low tide was at 4:30 am or so and we were able to wade out pretty far. John hooked up with a bsp pretty quick, followed by a short hali from Donny (no pictures...John got the dreaded blinking *no battery* light and Donny's popped off when he grabbed the lure).
Okay! Things were looking up! But then nothing for the next hour.
So we went to another sandbar a little further south and BOOM! Terry is hooked up! In his, hmmm, how do I say this? Ah...while concentrating on fighting the fish, Terry's incredible single mindedness caused him to not notice the sneaker wave that crashed at his shins. But in a feat only a few of us could manage, Terry's catlike reflexes kept him in the game. With is his feet taken out from under him, he still managed to keep his rod tip high, and his beautiful reel (is that a Pluton?) out of the white water...all the while keeping his line tight. Shortly after righting the ship, Terry pulled up what I thought was a chunky corbina...but as I got closer and snapped a picture, I was corrected...
Way to go T! A freaking WSB off a sandy beach? Woulda never believed it had I not seen it myself. In the spirit of the upcoming Olympics, I score this 8.5 for size and a 10.0 for technical difficulty
Not more than a few minutes later, my other buddy Nate hooks into another fish! Sweet! Maybe there's a school of those juveniles out there. Turned out to be a short hali (first time he was disappointed with one of those, but he was hoping for a wsb)
Terry got some pics of him but before he could pose with it, senor halibut jumped ship and went home
Just when we were thinking it was about to bust wide open, that was the last fish of the day. Terry had to head off to the airport to get his daughter so that was a good time to reel up and go say hi to the women and children. I was a single dude that day so I fished a bit more at the tide change but ended the day with the big
But you know, I got to meet a couple of the SWAT team and it was a pleasure to see 'em in action, shoot the breeze, and I was glad to see Terry land that ghost from a partially seated position
I'm off to Montana to fish for some freshwater denizens. I look forward to seeing what you guys are catching on the coast.

Greg, It was a pleasure to meet you and Nate down at the local fishin' hole and it was good to cross paths again with Don as well.
Well, it sure wasn't a wide open bite but it was pretty cool to have the oportunity to meet and fish with members of the board. I enjoyed the conversation and the laughs were plenty and I know I provided a couple of them. The first time I was taken out by a rouge knee high wave I thought I was able to pull it off without anyone noticing but Bachiboy made it clear....."I saw that"
The second was purely deserved as I yelled over to NT "Hey look at me I'm hooked up". But I got my deserved reward by being knocked over by another knee high wave...... It was pure luck I was able to land that fish and it turned out to be shy of legal but a WSB all the same.
It was great fishing with you guys and I hope we can cross paths again.
Nate with one that got away.....sorta.....but we got the pic
This pic has to go down as one of my favorites.......check out the guy cheering Nate on in the background.....
A parting shot.........

Excellent recap/report Greg.......Nate, Don ........oh and Terry too, great morning fellas. Although the fish count wasn't huge I think we all got into some, thx gentlemen. Terry and I had a few hours available we planned on hittin that A.O as a recon for further Intel if it played out, gettin there a little early (which proved a wise choice completely forgetting the holiday) I was in the water when others arrived, looking back at shore to find out who was yelling at me and seeing all the friendly faces was really cool, fish or not some of the best times are unplanned spur of the moment. Also my lucky charm was there and soon as he hit the water "BAM" I was fish on with the skunkbuster, hard fightin Perch. Thx Don.......hahahahaha
Pontoon, later in the morning I get "HEY" coming from his direction and as I turn to see what up that low hittin knee knocker takes your feet out ........"DOWN GOES PONTOON, MAN DOWN, MAN DOWN! And that Pluton never got wet.......WSB from the beach, epic.......keep it on the hook while showin off doing El Rollo's, priceless! ..........hey, wait a minute, don't Pontoons float???????? hahahahaha, lol.........
Great morning boys, thanks again......tight lines, thanks for sharing....
ps, pic of the year is Don on the jetty in the background of Nate !!!!!
