We used to fish the pier off of Admiral Kidds at the ASW base. There's some huge rays over there. We used to use the mackeral we would catch first off the pier then go for the bat rays. I was using a jigmaster 500 on a Penn stick and it is really fun especially when fighting big batrays. The drag screaming and when you almost get to the point of getting spooled. Gee those were the days!!!

So what do you do in that situation? Cut the line? Were you able to pull it out of the water?

I now use a hoop net...but previous to that, as long as you can see where your hooks at...I just ram my hand into their mouth and scoop 'em outa the water...but b4 I developed the balls to do this, I lost several ranging from 35 to 60 lbs at the back of Marina Del rey (Chase Park)

They cannot hurt ya with their mouth...just watch for your hook
