Yeah, let's take Texas for example.
24 million residents, 28% uninsured, great job there Perry, which equates to nearly 8 million people without health care.
Since there is a 16% poverty rate, let's say there are nearly 4 million people who really can't afford it.
That means nearly 4 MILLION Texans
could afford insurance,
but choose not to have it. Yet, they still have a right to seek ER care at the expense of who? Oh yeah, federal taxpayers
(because TX does not have state income taxes) who send
billions each year to support Texas' hospitals.
Yeah, I think it is pretty clear why they have no incentive to get insurance or expand medicaid.
Why?
They would have to shoulder their own costs.
