Here is an option I dont see many looking into. If you are float tubing you will typically be close to shore so a PFD Belt may be the way to go. I use a manual PFD vest that is made by the same company and runs approx. $119.00 but I have seen belts like the link attached for as little as $45.00 at West Marine. The belt can be worn ALL the time and you would not even know you have it on. Only problem is it is manually activated so god forbid you were hit by a boat this would not activate when you were in the water unless you pulled the tab first. They do make these Water Activated but those are recomended for fast moving water sports like sailing and power boats.

I bought an inexpensive pfd vest at Walmart a couple of years ago for less than $20 and it works fine. I've jumped in a swimming pool wearing it and it floats me very nicely. On cold mornings when I go out fishing I wear it snapped closed on me. It really helps to keep you warm. After it warms up, I attach it to my tube, so it's close by and easy to grab in case of an emergency.
