    Default Need help with boat/outboard

    Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a 14' Valco and it came with a Yamaha outboard longshaft. My transom is only 15" tall... Shouldnt I have a short shaft outboard on there? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Should have a short shaft.
It will work OK but it will just stick down longer than needed.
Guys usually use long shafts on sailboats.

True statement above. It won't hurt u in any way, and with motor prices I would go buying a new one unless someone will do a trade with you.

I have a 12 foot Valco :) Love it! yes. They are correct; you should have a short shaft. Long shaft motors are for sail boats.

Thanks everybody for your help. I would take pictures but I have sold the outboard and I am now looking for a short shaft outboard. If anyone is selling a short shaft outboard, let me know. Thanks!

Long shaft small outboards are used as kicker engines on skiffs all the time also..
