    Default June Lakes 8/12-8/19

All i can say about this trip was sloooooooow fishing, high winds, and waaaayyyyyy too much smoke from the fire over in fresno.

there were 10 of us camping at oh ridge and in the loop, we only managed 4 rainbows and about 5 micro browns.

On the 14th, my bday, we decided to go to the valley to get under the smoke because it was becoming unbearable. I wanted to go to the upper owen's above benton's crossing because i had the itch for some fly fishing. it was a good choice. hoppers and caddis flies were all they wanted. I ended up with only 2 but thats because i haven't fly fished in a long time and missed about 10 hooksets. The gf was getting hit left and right on a fly bubble with a hopper but only managed 3. I got a real treat too with my pb best rainbow.

by the way, those aren't clouds

    now that's a beautiful fish

    quick release

finally on friday we got a break from most of the smoke and took a hike up little lakes valley. the gf and i did some more fishing for the typical little sierra brookies. i ended up with about 12 on caddis flies, gnats, and other assorted dry flies.

    too beautiful

my apologies about not having too much to report, hopefully if the smoke cooperates, my dad and i will be back up thursday backpacking to evolution lake out of sabrina. if not, we might head farther north to get away from the smoke.

A picture is worth 1000 words. So that makes your report rather lengthy and in-depth. That is a fine specimine of a rainbow in 3rd and 4th pics by the way.

Nice report and nice pics of ur fish. I been living in the sierras for a little over 2 months now and this past week has been terribly smoky. Can hardly see the mtns off the 395. It has just cleared up for the past few days so that is a bummer that the smoke got in ur way.

Anyways, still I like the report and pics despite the smoke.

    Why all the smoke??

Is there a forest fire up there? :(
