Channel Islands Sportfishing (CISCOS) Report
September has been another productive month here at the beautiful Channel Islands. The weather has been cooperating, as has the water temp. Hovering in the mid 60s the warm water has provided the energy needed for great catches of calico bass and sand bass. The white seabass although not as thick as earlier this year are still around. The Aloha Spirit skippered by captain Shawn Steward put the gaff to 2 seabass in the 50lb range. The Cobra also saw some nice seabass to 51lbs. The Gentleman has 5 today on a 3/4 day run. Halibut have been a nice fish to target as well this month, on a recent overnight trip aboard the Seabiscuit with skipper Bobby V, 6 flatfish to 50lbs were scored along with big scores of quality outer island sheephead to 15lbs. The big lings are also showing their ugly heads, the Gentleman ran by captain Don Rowell put Bob Oliver of Culver City on his personal best 25lb lingcod. Our 1/2 day and 3/4 day boats have had stellar cod fishing with plenty of tasty reds and salmon groupers to go around. The occasional yellowtail is being scored on the full day and overnight boats giving us high hopes of an epic fall yellowtail bite. Whatever your fish of choice is the Channel Islands is producing.
