I like to set the fish next to my rod if it's big and I have no scale.
Lets me get a measurement on the fish when I get home... which can better help with weight estimate.
I estimate my last two stripers at 8 and 9lbs in this manner.

28" 8lb halibut (or greater)
Bwtween 7-8 lbs for sure.
My bad.
His fish is somewhere between 6 and 8. No doubt about that.
A solid fish. I thought they don't feed them as well back east?
Fish don't flare a gill like that unless it's jumping or choking on it's own girth when you hold it.
It has some weight to it.

I caught a fish last night that was about 2-3lbs and I could fit both of my hands in it's mouth. Your fish looks to be about 3-4lbs from the picture you have posted but it is very hard to say without seeing it in person. I have seen tons of fish in the 5-9lb range and that doesn't look like it is in that range. Just my opinion though..
I would say 5lbr or so...but golf course fish..dont count lol..
Honestly that fish is only 3 pounds, 4 at the most. Thats why I carry a scale.I have caught bass I would swear weigh 6 pounds. Through it on the scale 4 pounds. Look at my avatar that fish is 10.6 pounds.
I love to hear the different opinions on the weight. That's why our judicial system is jacked up too. I bet you think Casey Anthony is innocent too huh? I've caught bass clear up to eight pounds. This fish was def at least 7 pounds. I wasn't at a golf course. I was a private pond in Pennsylvania. Two minutes from where my wife grew up. We go back there each year to visit. Now I carry a scale with me.
