    Default Yellows.........Catalina Island 8/9/07

Headed out about 4am this morning to the backside of the island with my friend Gene and James, we didn't have any live squid so we used frozen for a pretty steady bite on the yellows, the boats around us with live candy bait were on a WFO bite on the yellows, as long as you were in the right spot most of the boats produced fish.

After the yellows we did some marlin and shark hunting, we spotted a big Mako that wasn't interested in our macks so he went his merry way, we also spotted a marlin jumping in front of the boat, but after seven or so jumps he went under. 8)

    Here's a couple pics.

Thats a nice yellowtail. Nicely done.

About makos: They are very very VERY smart. Usually you need something larger than macks to get their attention, large live bonito are an excellent bait for them. And once a mako has been hooked by a person and escapes, it will never forget.

    Hey Andy,

You should have just come over anyway, there's plenty of bait out front, we made macks, dines and smelt with no problem, plus the yellows we caught were on fresh frozen squid

Yeah we had the right bait, the macks were larger than most bonita, the fish was just very sketchy....
