You sound just like Sonny Bono in the 1980's, 1990's. Same old broken record.

    Bottom Line.

The Sea if fed by the MOST CONTAMINATED RIVER in North America that Flows North from Mexicali Mexico a city of 1,000,000 people !

The Salton Sea is a large Sump Pit 250' below Sea level.
    IT HAS NO OUTLET !
It has very little circulation, it is not self-cleaning like the ocean.

Mexicali dumps everything into it, raw sewage, heavy industrial metals, many factories in Mexico dump into it. It is a perfect dumpsite since everything they dump into it leaves there country and is now a USA Problem.

We can not do JackShit about it !

All you guys who think it is clean need to get your head examined.

If you have not seen the New River Video then
Do Not Comment on this thread.

The river odor gets people sick. I lived above the river and smelled it.

Most of you guys that enjoy the Sea don't know
Squat about the New River !

Educate yourself, then you will know why NOBODY goes there.
I was offered a Beach Front Home in Bombay Beach for $3500
    (back taxes only)
1/2 the town is boarded up, graffiti, trash, crime, WORTHLESS !

if any one is willing to donate some money and some fish, I can get a break on some testing to get some real scientific data out of it.

only way to get a real answer out of the whole thing.

Or, we can find a Guinea pig to eat his weight in Tilapia on the daily and if he turns out like Sloth from the Goonies after 2 weeks as DockRat predicts, then we not only have an answer to our question, we also save a lot of money in the process.

    Who's with me!?

This has been an entertaining thread. DR is not a expert. He is simply reasonable.

Fisher, Dockrat is just speaking out of concern and what he's seen. He did live and work around the area. I'd be just as frustrated if my own community started to deteriorate. Let him be dude. He's just sharing his own personal knowledge. Take it as information, nothing else. No, I never met the guy.

TheAsianGuy, thanks for sharing you're info as well. Some of it is way too deep for my shallow brain:)

I understand...but.......I, myself am a resident of the Imperial Valley(northend) and the New River and Salton Sea are touchy subjects for me. For anyone to say don't go to the Salton Sea, there's nothing to see...well, I get pretty frustrated. Besides being great for fishing, the Salton Sea is amazing for Birdwatching...this is top 2 best places to see more species of birds than you care to count. People need to be educated more on the Salton Sea rather than discount it as a bad, smelly, horrible place to visit.

I'm not speaking from the shallow end of the pool, but this place is amazing. I see the Salton Sea EVERY day...and it just blows me away how beautiful it is...so I know people are concerned for their own safety, but hey, bottom line people are going to believe the worst of the worst about this place...so they stay away...that's not necessary..you ask any average joe in the Imperial Valley about what they know about the Salton Sea, and they'll probably shrug their shoulders and tell you, "Isn't it contaminated?!" Come on man, there's more to it than meets the eye. Until I learned more and more about it and got close to it, I too was as ignorant as any other person on the matter...

Like I said before, if you don't want to come to see this great lake, fine, more room for me and others who get excited about being here!

    Hmm. Interesting take.

Now, I've heard DVL is contaminated all to hell. DockRat, can you post about how contaminated DVL is so that maybe I won't have to wait in line behind 90 cars at 5 am in the morning on the weekends?
