Thread: Fishing The Salton Sea

    Default Fishing The Salton Sea

    Hey Everybody!

Just wanted to tell all of you that the Salton Sea(south end) has been GREAT. This past week has been hot(not the weather)but the fishing...the tilapia fishermen are catching have been a very good size.

I'm seeing a lot of people hitting Obsidian Butte/Black Rock/Obsidian

I like this place because it's quiet, nice rocky, gravelly shoreline.

If you don't get bit right away, move over a few yards to the left or right, and eventually you'll find a honey hole!

I'm going later! Good luck and catch a hundred fish!!!

Yeah, there's plenty of plain ground to set up a canopy and all...

I'm not sure about night fishing....I've never done it....but they'll be biting at least up to the point when there's VERY little light left. Once you put up some shade, it's not that bad!

Bring plenty of iced water gallons and some snacks and you'll have the time of your life!

Oh yeah, one last thing...I've noticed that I, and others are not catching as many fish as when the water is calm...I don't know exactly what it could be, but I'm casting not too far-not too close in these windy/wavy conditions, and it's not as great. I think what's happening is that the tilapia may be going to deeper water when there's too much movement. So, if you want to have the best conditions, check accuweather.com or weather.com for this area.

In any case, the fish WILL be biting if all is right...HAVE FUN!

Hey everybody, here again with yet another report.

Obsidian Butte has been very active with tilapia. Some are pretty darn big compared to many, many tilapia I've seen come out of the Salton Sea these past years.

I've been very happy to see a boat and plenty of fishermen down here. It's good to see people enjoying the Salton Sea. I've personally fisherd behind the power plant(still a part of Obsidian Butte)at the Sea wall, and it's been good. Can you believe that a tilapia that I caught yesterday ripped my line...how the hell can that happen...it's a tilapia!??

ANyway, I'll enjoy it while I can!

Take care and have fun this weekend!

Thanks for the update. So, what was the exact size to those Tilapias? 2lbs? Oh, and it sounds like you may have hooked into a corvina!

Hm..I wonder what happen to DockRat? He's normally the one to intervene fishing at the Salton Sea, especially near the Ant Hill delta where the two polluted water ways enter into to the lake. Odd. He's not taking on this post..

Anywho, it's great that you've tackled some of the monsters out there. They've been mutated to have ultra strength, and teeth of Jaws. Just watch how much you eat from those catches, since those fishes feed heavy concentration of pollutants coming from the southeastern delta.

Hey hey, you call them pollutants.
