    Default Fishing The Salton Sea

    Hey Everybody!

Just wanted to tell all of you that the Salton Sea(south end) has been GREAT. This past week has been hot(not the weather)but the fishing...the tilapia fishermen are catching have been a very good size.

I'm seeing a lot of people hitting Obsidian Butte/Black Rock/Obsidian

I like this place because it's quiet, nice rocky, gravelly shoreline.

If you don't get bit right away, move over a few yards to the left or right, and eventually you'll find a honey hole!

I'm going later! Good luck and catch a hundred fish!!!

Yeah, there's plenty of plain ground to set up a canopy and all...

I'm not sure about night fishing....I've never done it....but they'll be biting at least up to the point when there's VERY little light left. Once you put up some shade, it's not that bad!

Bring plenty of iced water gallons and some snacks and you'll have the time of your life!

Oh yeah, one last thing...I've noticed that I, and others are not catching as many fish as when the water is calm...I don't know exactly what it could be, but I'm casting not too far-not too close in these windy/wavy conditions, and it's not as great. I think what's happening is that the tilapia may be going to deeper water when there's too much movement. So, if you want to have the best conditions, check accuweather.com or weather.com for this area.

In any case, the fish WILL be biting if all is right...HAVE FUN!

Yes that is our observation as well. Here's how you get them to strike - once your split shot or drop shop rig hits the bottom gradually move it by reeling in or raising your rod tip. This will induced a strike every time. The other observation is that out where we normally fished when the waves kicked in we get much bigger fish.

Our honey hole is the old jetty behind the Yacht Club / Museum. You don't need to stay there long to fill your cooler. Just go there earlier morning from 6 to 8:30 when it is still cool - use 2 hooks and nightcrawler, doubles are very common. Or go late after 5PM till sun down.

I've heard the fishing is great at Salton Sea. Please tell me how you rig and what bait you use for the tilapia.

If you are shore fishing go to the yauth club right before the state park. You can fishoff the rocks for free. Use nightcrawlers they hammer them number 4 or 6 hooks 8# line and 3/8 weights. If you are in a boat and have a fish finder you will see it lite up out to 15ft. We just drifted from 15ft. out to about 8ft. and had a blast.....

Hm..wasn't that article published back in 2005? That's 6 years ago. By the way, too many info being fed to the public about the New River. What's the info on the Salton Sea? Until people start to go into more details about the Salton Sea itself, rather than the nasty rivers that feed into it, I can then truly take the words of the odd labs producing the info. US EPA contracted half baked labs to do their sampling, as well as grad students from universities. I was a researching students at the bio and chem labs at UCR as well, or better yet, lab assistant at the private labs (can't mention the name since I'm under agreement) that do half baked jobs, and it is one of the largest lab in California.

If you like to compare orange to orange, and apple to apple, let's do this:

    1. L.A. streams tributaries that feed to the primary flood channel, which drained from the local basins throughout the Cities, and feed directly to the wetland which connects directly to the Paficic Ocean along the Interstate Highway 1, or known as Pacific Highway. Have you read the reports from 2009 to 2011? You might want to think twice.

    2. San Diego harbors and Depart of Defense bases discharge excessive pollutant loads that far exceed the New River in heavy metals, chemical agents, and underground leechates that far exceed US EPA drinking water standards by 3000 folds.

Guess what? We're swimming in the water, and drinking the same water, that we're living in..sooooo..not too new there.

How about air quality? Want a nice lecture? okay..okay..like I have warn so many people before..use sound judgments when eating the fishes folks.
