    Default Rpt-Sat.-05-21-11 Great local Bass'n!

Fishing Saturday, May 21, 11, on Lal’s 18’ boat, the “Rubber Ducky”. We launched out of Davies in Long Beach at 5:00 am, our beginning destination being Izor’s Reef. It was grease calm, with a little swell, which made the ride out to the Reef, a pleasant one.

Arriving at Izor’s Reef, the wind was better than forecasted, less than 2 knots. Lal elected to start our first drift on the lower end in 82 feet of water. We were first to arrive, and only a few other private boaters arrived within an hour. Never saw a Spot Boat all day? Our bite resulted in a very slow pick, as we moved from one stone after another. Most of the Bass were Sandies with a few small Calico Bass. Lal was first up with a picture moment:

Myself with a 3.5 LB Sandy!

Lal continued to put us back on the structure, with great meter marks. The Bass were shy as there were numerous short bites, however, we were able to set the hook on a decent amount of fish. The quality was marginal, however a few bigger models made a showing.

Here is Lal with a five-pound Sand Bass, today’s Jackpot.

Then Lal caught another 3.5 LB Sand Bass.

Then Lal landed another 3 LB Dandy Sandy.

The bite shutdown at about 9:30 am at Izor’s, a couple hours after low tide. However, we had scratched out 25 mixed Bass from this area, all released. We headed south to see if any Barracuda had arrived, with water temps in the 60.6-degree range it was possible. No such luck. So we stopped on some other stones and picked away at some more Sand Bass and Calico Bass. The wind was very kind to us today, a rare event this year. We caught and release another 15 mixed Bass, bringing our total to 40 Bass released. We also caught several Rockfish. An excellent day of local Bass fishing.

Called it a day at 2:20pm, with the wind only reaching about 8 knots, too cool!
Thanks Lal, another great day on the Ducky!
