Default Team 57 ' Lucky Hat ' on the 14 Mile Bank.

Had 3 hats in the car and grabbed the Team 57 old weathered, not worn in months beat up, faded hat for good luck.

Got a free boat ride / birthday present with my 2 newphews on the Patriot out of Newport. Had to load up on weights 6 oz - 10 oz for the 150' - 250' depth.
$50 bucks worth the lead and ended up useing the same rig for 5 hours. LOL

The guy that set up the charter said at the first stop
' $20 for the first fish on the boat ' Bam, felt something. reeled up and had a 6" Sand Dab. Told the guy ' There is a legal catch ' he looks
then looks at the deckhand and the deckhand nods. That was a fast $20

Then next drop Nice 7 lb Boccacio and I'm thinking JP
    20 guys in the Jackpot @ $5 ea = $100

No fish here so we head to the 14
4 to 5 relocation spots on the anchor and DR had the hot fishing rod.
Kept saying ' Gunna need another gunny sack ' LOL

Everybody caught fish. Mostly newbies on rental rods. Deckhands fished a little and
handed off rods to the rookies. Lots of Boccacio / Salmon Grouper and assorted rockfish.

Got a limit of rockfish and gave away 4 big Boccacio.

That first Boccacio smoked the competion with only one guy trying to compeat.
Gave the JP to the crew and they were stoked with the 25 passenger light load.
Most of the newbs fished the side of the boat and the stern was pretty open all day.

Thanks Dana for the ' Lucky Hat '

    And you're modest too!

I think we as fishermen are a rather superstitious breed (including myself). I've always had a few lucky charms and trinkets. I'm glad it paid off for u cory - way to represent 57.

We want to hear more big pond reports coming out of you bro. Good job!

Thanks guys. I guess the secret is having a short stiff rod. Too many people on the boat had thier loose rods totally bent over so they were fighting the long cranking up from 200' +.
One of the old school plates mounted on the rod to prevent rod twist and sit on the rail would be ideal.
There was about 5 nice Cow Cod caught that were released.

I'm 'over it' and don't need any more deep rockfishing for another 10 years.
